i'm going to china!

As promised, below will be my pre-halloween costume pictures. And yes, I will be wearing my costume tomorrow for actual halloween when little kiddies will come to my door for candy!

I had such a wonderful sunday today; it felt like I was carrying around a four leaf clover today. I finished my last interview with the Resident Directors for the RA position. I thought it went relatively well, and I am so excited to be done with the application process. Surprisingly, the application process was not as intimidating as it seemed to be. I pretty much enjoyed the whole process, even the written portion. All I have to do now is wait in anticipation for the letter on November 10th. Don't be surprised if you see me going into Reid multiple times throughout the day to check my mail.

When I was walking back from my interview, crossing the street in my awkward high heels and business casual outfit, I found a dirty, muddy, twenty dollar bill on the ground. This is the first time this has ever happened to me without anyone else around. I feel bad because I know it is someones, but it clearly has lost its owner. Now I can buy myself some decent food!

And now for some more wonderful news. Around 2 pm this afternoon, I got an email from my professor saying that I was accepted into the History of Ethnobiology of the Silk Roads field course!! I AM SOOOOO EXCITED that it is surreal. What does this mean? This means that during Spring Break of the upcoming semester, I will be going on a trip to actually go to China. It has been one of my dreams to someday go to China and see the land of my ancestors. It was little hard to concentrate on calc homework after hearing this news.

Later today I was appreciated with a starbucks gift card for something that I shouldn't even have been awarded for. I am so grateful. More food/coffee I can eat or share with someone!

And lastly, I have some more thoughts about something that I found out a couple weeks ago. I just wanted to express how blessed I feel for my family. I was not planning on going home for Thanksgiving because I live so far, and I was not planning on seeing my family until the end of the semester. I got a phone call from my mom a couple weeks ago and she said that she would really like to come see me at Whitman during my Thanksgiving break. They will be coming the day after Thanksgiving and stay the weekend. After about a week figuring out the logistics of it, she found some great plane tickets for herself and my two younger siblings. And then my family surprised me by telling me later that my dad was also coming! And then again, they surprised me by telling me that my oldest brother was also coming up to Whitman! I do not quite know if my other older brother will be able to make it, but I am ecstatic and I feel so so so so blessed that my family can see what my life is like up here in Washington.

It is something that I have want to share with them for the past year and a half or so. My family has never before been to Whitman during my college experience here. My mom came with me to visit during my junior year of high school, but that is all. I moved myself in both freshman and sophomore year (which was not difficult at all), with the wonderful help of my roommates' parents. I knew that when I chose to go here that I would be far from home and I would just have to accept the fact that I won't be able to come home very often and that my family won't be able to visit. It was a little hard, especially during parent's weekend, to see everyone's family come to Whitman while mine were back in California. I feel so blessed because this is something that seemed so impossible due to certain circumstances, but God is good, and makes things possible.
